Sponsor a Senior Design Project
Mechanical Engineering

Project Outcomes:
At the conclusion of the Senior Design program, student teams deliver engineering
solutions that demonstrate the full design process, from problem definition to validated
results. While outcomes vary depending on the project, sponsors can expect tangible
deliverables and thorough documentation of the work completed by the team.
Typical project outcomes include:
- A complete engineering design: Final CAD models, engineering drawings, and supporting
documentation describing the developed solution.
- Analysis and validation: Engineering analysis, simulations, and/or experimental testing
used to evaluate the design and verify performance against project requirements.
- Prototype or proof-of-concept system: When appropriate, teams build and test a prototype
or experimental setup to demonstrate the feasibility of the design.
- Comprehensive project documentation: Written reports detailing the design process,
decision-making, analysis, and recommendations for future development.
- Final presentation and demonstration: Teams present their work to faculty, students,
and sponsors and often demonstrate prototypes or test results.
Because Senior Design is an educational experience, projects typically produce validated
concepts, prototypes, or feasibility studies rather than fully commercialized products.
However, many sponsors use the results as a foundation for continued development,
internal innovation, or future collaboration with the university.
