Representatives of the University of Wyoming Press (UWyoP) will be on campus to meet with members of the UW community Wednesday, Sept. 14.
Robert Ramaswamy, UWyoP acquisitions editor, and Darrin Pratt, University Press of Colorado (UPC) director, will meet with individual faculty members and offer a workshop. Along with the UW editorial team, they also will celebrate the creation of the press with an open house. The events are open to all UW community members who are interested in learning more about UWyoP and publishing.
UWyoP publishes peer-reviewed works of scholarly, cultural and social importance that are relevant to Wyoming, the Mountain West region, the nation and the world. As an imprint of UPC, it aims to advance and distribute knowledge globally by publishing significant scholarly works and making them accessible.
UWyoP is currently seeking book proposals, and the publishing team’s visit will allow for conversations and in-person interactions.
“Paths to University Press Publication” will take place from 9-10:30 a.m. in Room 506 of Coe Library and via Zoom. The workshop will focus on the practical aspects of getting published -- from peer review to transforming dissertations to advance contracts. Time will be available for questions on the book publishing process and timeline as well as how the role of an acquisitions editor guides and supports the publication process. Light refreshments will be provided. Interested UW community members should register at https://uwyo.libcal.com/event/9552861.
UW community members also are invited to a UWyoP open house at 4 p.m. at the Cooper House to celebrate the creation of the new imprint. Light refreshments will be provided.
Additionally, UW authors can schedule one-on-one meetings with Ramaswamy during his visit.
“We’re very excited to welcome the UPC team to campus and have an in-person event to celebrate the launch of the University of Wyoming Press,” says Scott Henkel, UW’s Wyoming Excellence Chair in the Humanities and a member of the press editorial committee. “The press is not only an asset for UW, but for all of Wyoming. The books the press will publish will be at the forefront of scholarly conversations, directly serving the people of Wyoming, the West and beyond.”
Several UW faculty members serve on an editorial committee that advises UWyoP. UW editorial committee members are Ivan Gaetz, dean of UW Libraries; Henkel, Wyoming Institute for Humanities Research director; Marcel Kornfeld, a professor in the Department of Anthropology; David Kruger, agriculture and business librarian; and Renee Laegreid, a professor in the Department of History.
For more information about the visit, or to set up a one-on-one meeting, UW community members can email Ramaswamy at robert@uwyopress.com. For more information about UWyoP, visit https://upcolorado.com/university-of-wyoming-press.
