The University of Wyoming Office of Community Engagement is accepting applications for the 2024-25 Community Engaged Faculty Institute. The application deadline is 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6.
UW faculty members interested in designing or revising service-learning and community-engaged curriculum for implementation in the 2025-26 academic year are encouraged to apply. Faculty fellows will be selected through a competitive process, with notification by Friday, Dec. 20.
Selected faculty members will be expected to participate in eight 2-hour workshops that will take place from January through April; develop a final project; and complete assessment activities. Faculty fellows also will engage in collaborative cohort activities and receive coaching support throughout and beyond the program. A $1,000 stipend is provided to faculty fellows upon completion of program requirements.
Through the program, faculty fellows will understand the foundation of service-learning as a high-impact teaching practice; develop a plan to design, implement and assess service-learning and community-engaged curriculum; learn processes to develop and maintain mutually beneficial community partnerships; identify resources to navigate common challenges with service-learning implementation; and use coaching support during and beyond the program.
The Community Engaged Faculty Institute is designed to advance UW faculty efforts to provide impactful service-learning and community-engaged opportunities for UW students. The program supports UW’s recent designation as a Carnegie Foundation Community Engaged Campus and institutional priorities to foster excellence in teaching, enhance student success, expand hands-on learning opportunities for students and strengthen relationships with external community partners.
Rachel Watson, director of the Science Initiative’s Learning Actively Mentoring Program (LAMP), is serving as a lead facilitator of this year’s program. The Community Engaged Faculty Institute also is supported by the Office of Academic Affairs; Service, Leadership and Community Engagement (SLCE); and the Wallop Civic Engagement Program and Stewart Family Enrichment Fund within the School of Politics, Public Affairs and International Studies.
