The Office of Community Engagement (OCE), formerly the Office of Engagement and Outreach, was originally established in 2018, and recently reestablished in 2023 to elevate and expand UW's mission of community engagement, including our land-grant mission of service to the state. OCE provides institutional leadership to assist UW's divisions in shaping, supporting, and advancing the university's goals for community relationships via engagement and outreach.
We look forward to furthering our work across the university and the State of Wyoming to cultivate, catalog, and celebrate mutually beneficial partnerships that enhance the well-being of our citizens and communities. "Pardon our dust" as we rebuild a website that centralizes engagement resources for citizens across Wyoming, as well as UW faculty, staff, and students. In the meantime, please reach out for assistance with community engagement and outreach.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT PROFILE:
JENNY INGWERSON-NIEMANN
Jennifer (Jenny) Ingwerson-Niemann is an Equine lecturer in the Department of Animal Science at the University of Wyoming. She has a passion for connecting her UW students with hands-on service-learning opportunities with local community partners in the equine industry.
In 2023-24, Jenny completed the UW Community Engaged Faculty Institute. In fall 2024, she applied her learning by redesigning a capstone course (ANSC 4250) for students who want to pursue a career in the equine industry with a focus on equine management. Students completed service-learning projects with community partners including reflection and presentations.
Community partners included veterinary clinics (Alpine Animal Hospital in Laramie and Sturgis Veterinary Hospital and Equine Center in South Dakota), the Center for Racehorse Retraining in Chugwater, Rodeo Ranch in Cheyenne, Rocky Mountain HorseDream in Laramie, and the Cliff and Martha Hansen Teaching Arena.
Thank you, Jenny, for your commitment to community-engaged education!
The UW Office of Community Engagement has compiled a report to highlight ways that the institution partners with, reaches out to, and serves Wyoming’s communities. This report was designed to shine a light on and celebrate some of the many impactful connections between UW and the state.
The University of Wyoming’s commitment to community engagement has earned recognition from the Carnegie Foundation. In 2024, UW received the Carnegie Elective Classification for Community Engagement, acknowledging the institution's extensive outreach efforts throughout the state. Universities receive this designation only following a rigorous evaluation and documentation of their community engagement endeavors. This designation serves as a catalyst for the university to further refine its strategic approach to community engagement and expand upon existing initiatives.
