Chat GPT. Virtual reality. Remote monitoring. Technology is changing, resulting in
innovative new tools for the caregivers of loved ones living with dementia.
That’s according to Theresa Robinett, an occupational therapist and an occupational
therapy assistant instructor at Casper College, who will shed light on the subject
when she leads the discussion during the next edition of Wyoming Dementia Together
(WDT). The program, “Care Partner Support Through Technology,” will be presented virtually
Wednesday, Oct. 22, at 10:30 a.m.
There will be three main parts to her presentation, Robinett says.
“We will be looking at how to use Chat GPT as a personal assistant to help the caregiver
be more organized and intentional with time,” she says. “I also am going to discuss
virtual reality and how we have been using this with residents in a skilled nursing
facility. Finally, I have been researching new and upcoming technology to assist with
remote monitoring in the home, and I will present in this area as well.”
WDT, which operates under the direction of the University of Wyoming Center on Aging
(WyCOA), meets by Zoom every other Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. Mountain Time. Programs
feature guest speakers and allow time for interaction from those who attend online.
WDT support staff members include dementia care professionals, licensed clinical social
workers, physical and occupational therapists, and caregivers themselves.
Caregivers from throughout Wyoming and surrounding states have benefited. “Outstanding
messages for us. Thank you,” said one caregiver following a recent program. Another
responded, “Thank you. I found it very helpful.” A third commented, “Fabulous presentation.
So many great ideas.”
Future WDT programs will feature “Respite Care for Myself and My Loved One,” Nov.
5; “Peace, Love and Joy: Activities for the Holiday Season,” Nov. 19; “Peace, Love
and Joy in the Holiday Season: Caring for Your Loved One and Yourself,” Dec. 3; and
“Our Gift to You: Ask the Professional Support Team,” Dec. 17. For more information,
