The University of Wyoming’s American Heritage Center (AHC) has created an Education and Outreach Department, designed to connect Wyoming residents, students and visitors with the center’s world-class collections and resources.

Brigida “Brie” Blasi, who has served as the AHC’s public history educator for the past five years, will lead the new department as head of education and outreach. The new department combines the AHC’s commitment to teaching, exhibits and community programming, creating more ways for people of all ages to connect with history and culture in meaningful ways.

“This new department highlights our commitment to sharing the AHC’s collections broadly,” says AHC Director Paul Flesher. “From university courses to K-12 visits, from lectures to exhibits, we are working to create more opportunities for people to learn from history and take part in the stories it holds.”

The AHC is one of the nation’s largest nongovernmental archives, with holdings that span Wyoming and the West; the energy and extraction industries; journalism; the entertainment industry; railroad and transportation history; politics; world affairs; and much more.

“The AHC has so many treasures to share,” Blasi says. “This new department gives us the chance to welcome more students, teachers and community members into the world of archives and to show how history speaks to our everyday lives.”

The Education and Outreach Department will ensure that the AHC’s collections are not only preserved, but also continually activated through teaching, learning and public programming.
