The University of Wyoming will celebrate scholarship and research during its Research and Discovery Days April 9-26. More than 15 events during that period will highlight creativity, curiosity and the impact of research conducted by UW faculty, students and staff.

Spanning disciplines from the sciences to the arts and creative work, Research and Discovery Days offers something for everyone and reflects the dynamic, interdisciplinary nature of the university’s research community.

Three symposia that showcase the breadth of research at UW will take place Monday, April 20, at the Marian H. Rochelle Gateway Center.

-- The Accelerating Research Translation (ART) Symposium, scheduled from 3-5:30 p.m., highlights projects being undertaken by UW researchers using a problem-solution-fit approach to address real problems encountered by industry. -- The UW Science Institute Annual Research Symposium, scheduled from 8 a.m.-7 p.m., features dynamic presentations by leading researchers in fields relevant to Science Institute research centers and artificial intelligence (AI); an interactive poster session; and valuable networking opportunities for faculty and students across the scientific disciplines. -- The Wyoming Institute for Humanities Research will host Humanities for AI. This is a gathering of scholars, practitioners and visionaries united by a singular purpose: advancing discovery.

The UW Science Institute research centers and visiting speakers will discuss how developing technology and research is addressing the unique challenges and opportunities in Wyoming and beyond.

Another feature of Research and Discovery Days is undergraduate research and inquiry across the disciplines (URID). URID features UW and Wyoming’s community college undergraduate research through oral and poster presentations across the sciences, arts and humanities.

“These events provide a valuable opportunity for the public to engage with and experience, firsthand, the innovative work of our students and faculty,” says Parag Chitnis, vice president for UW’s Research and Economic Development Division. “In 2025, the university’s research expenditures reached $193 million, underscoring a period of significant growth. The expansion of Research Week into Research and Discovery Days further reflects this momentum and the continued advancement of research activity in recent years.”

Research and Discovery Days begins with an AMK Ranch Research Social from 5-6:30 p.m. Thursday, April 9, in Pokes Pub, located in the basement of the Wyoming Union.

Many of the events are open to the public, faculty, staff and students. For a full list of events and more information, go to www.uwyo.edu/research/announcements/research-discovery.html.
