NASA is awarding up to $870,000 annually to 52 institutions -- including UW -- over the next four years to create opportunities for the next generation of innovators by supporting workforce development; science, technology, engineering and math education; and aerospace collaboration nationwide. The program’s mission is to produce a highly skilled workforce prepared to advance NASA’s mission and bolster the nation’s aerospace sector.

A newly produced UW documentary “Unwired” -- that was detailed by a UW media release -- shows how a catastrophic pronghorn die-off influenced the opening of an estimated 18,000 acres of habitat in Wyoming’s Red Desert. Oil City News and County 17 published UW’s release noting that Patrick Rodgers, a filmmaker and research scientist with UW’s Wyoming Migration Initiative, led the film’s production.

Several partner agencies, nonprofit organizations and conservation groups, including UW, contributed valuable data to the Wyoming Game and Fish Department’s recently published third edition of the “Wyoming Landowner’s Guide to Fences and Wildlife.” According to the department’s media release, the publication is a comprehensive guide to wildlife-friendly fencing solutions and resources. The Outdoor Wire also published the release.

Stanford University noted that Yi-Lin Cheng, a UW School of Politics, Public Affairs and International Studies associate professor, will present a lecture titled “Social Housing as a Solution in Taiwan and the United States” as a guest speaker in its Taiwan Program. Taiwan’s housing policies have long been influenced by the U.S. since the Cold War.

The Wyoming Arts Alliance recently reported that the arts and culture sector contributes $1.3 billion annually to the state economy, or 2.7 percent of the state’s gross domestic product, according to a Wyoming Tribune Eagle article. The report was generated by the alliance in conjunction with UW’s Center for Business and Economic Analysis and focused on data available from 2022.

County 10 published UW’s release noting that the university has selected the fourth cohort of the Wyoming Teacher-Mentor Corps, an initiative of UW’s College of Education and Trustees Education Initiative. Max Gilbraith, UW’s Harry C. Vaughn Planetarium coordinator, was among experts who commented in a Cowboy State Daily article on  the town of Jackson and Teton County becoming official International DarkSky Communities for efforts to reduce light pollution. Many towns have the DarkSky certification, but this is the first time for an entire county.
