Welcome from Acting President Theobald

neil_theobald.jpg

I so well remember the first day that I stepped on the UW campus in 1986. I was a graduate student at “the other UW”, the University of Washington, and was sent to Laramie to help establish the Wyoming School-University Partnership (which is still going strong nearly 35 years later). I remember thinking, “wouldn’t it be incredible to work every day with these kinds of great people in such a wonderful place.”

Thus, it is difficult to express how honored I am by the trust the Board has placed in me to spend the next 12 months advancing our strategic plan as acting president. I’m going to do everything possible to help set-up the next president for success. My priorities for doing so are:

Providing an Excellent Education – that’s our highest mission. It’s what the people of the State of Wyoming count on us to provide, and it’s our priority.

Being Affordable – I think there’s a lot more we can do financially to bring a UW education to more Wyoming students (I have deep experience in education funding that I can draw on to help.)

Being AccessiblePhysically, we know not everyone in Wyoming can come to Laramie - - but we can go to them - - through distance learning and partnerships with community colleges.

Finally, Faculty Excellence. We are blessed with an incredible faculty – we need to retain them and we need recruit more.

There’s a lot to do, but I am - - literally - - living a dream.

If we can be of any assistance to you or anyone you know, please contact me at Neil.Theobald@uwyo.edu.

Go Pokes!

Neil
