Custom Outdoor Programs

The University of Wyoming Outdoor Program offers custom outdoor experiences tailored to meet the needs of university groups, departments, and organizations looking to explore Wyoming’s natural landscapes. These programs take place outside of Campus Recreation facilities and can include a range of seasonal activities such as canoeing, hiking, rock climbing, mountain biking, and team-building initiatives. More Information on Custom Programs

  • These requests are strictly for outdoor programming occurring outside of Campus Recreation facilities. For requests occurring inside of Half Acre Recreation & Wellness Center or Corbett, please see our facility reservations page

  • Maximum group sizes vary by activity and location. We may be able to accommodate larger groups, but they will be split into distinct, separate parties as dictated by the maximums listed below. 
  • Additionally, you may request multiple activities at the same location to facilitate larger groups, i.e. a day hike and canoeing at Curt Gowdy State Park. 

  • Please select "Other" for an activity not listed below, and it will be considered.  

  • Requests must be made at least two weeks in advance of event date. If a request is made less than two weeks in advance, it will not be considered. 

  • We recommend that groups reserve their own vehicles through the UW Car Rental Services for transportation to and from activity location. The Outdoor Program can facilitate vehicle reservation and driving at cost. 

  • Recurring requests are approved on a semester basis and do not roll over into the following semesters.

  • Confirmation of a custom program may take up to five (5) business days after the request form is submitted.  After this request has been approved, an e-mail confirmation will be sent to the e-mail address provided.  Questions can be directed to (307) 766-2402 or Elise D'Allessandro.

  • Cancellation must be made 72 hours prior to start of program or employee costs are still the responsibility of the requesting organization.

  • Blackout dates may apply due to scheduled programming, special events, and holidays. 

  • Processing will take approximately five business days once a program request form has been completed. Confirmation may take longer. Call (307) 766-2402 for more information.

  • Academic classes, active Recognized Student Organization (RSOs), UW sponsored groups, campus departments, are all eligible to request custom outdoor programming.  

  • All custom program participants regardless of affiliation must complete and furnish a waiver prior to engaging in the activity. 

  • For RSO pricing: all program participants must be University of Wyoming students. 

  • For UW affiliated group pricing (academic classes, departments, other campus groups): all program participants must be UW affiliates (students/staff/faculty/camp registrants/etc.). 

  • No requests may be made in which group participants include those who are not affiliated with the University of Wyoming in any capacity.  

  • Canoeing at Curt Gowdy State Park or the North Platte River (max: 18 participants)

  • Stand-Up Paddleboarding at Curt Gowdy State Park (max: 10 participants)

  • Day Hikes at a variety of locales (max: 10 participants)

  • Basic rock climbing at Vedauwoo (max: 10 participants)

  • Fly fishing casting clinic on campus, 2 hours in duration (max: 10 participants)

  • Multi-Day Backpacking in the Snowy Range Mountains (max: 10 participants)

  • Mountain Biking on the Schoolyard Trail System or other locales (max: 8 participants)

  • Team building activities (max: varies on location)

  • Snowshoe Day Hikes in the Snowy Range Mountains or Happy Jack Recreation Area (max: 10 participants)

  • Nordic Skiing (classic or skate) at Happy Jack Recreation Area (max: 10 participants)

  • Team Building activities (max: varies by location)

  • Outdoor Program Field Staff:  $17 per hour, per individual
  • Employees costs are doubled 11 p.m.-8 a.m.
  • Campus Recreation determines the amount of staff needed depending on the number of participants, activity, and location.

  • Canoeing:  RSO $25 | UW Group $50

  • Stand Up Paddleboarding: RSO $15 | UW Group $30

  • Day Hike: RSO $10 | UW Group $15

  • Rock Climbing: RSO $15 | UW Group $30

  • Fly Fishing Casting/Tying Clinic: RSO $10 | UW Group $15

  • Backpacking, per day: RSO $20 | $35
