Referral Information
A referral from the Student Health Center (SHC) is required for medical care outside of SHC and is needed each academic year for each diagnosis. Except as listed below if you do not have a referral there will be no coverage (payment) from the insurance company. A referral is not needed in the following circumstances:
- Medical Emergency. The student must return to SHC for necessary follow-up care.
- When the Student Health Center is closed.
- When service is rendered at another facility during break or vacation periods.
- Medical care received when the student is more than 40 miles from campus.
- Medical care obtained when a student is no longer able to use the SHC due to a change in student status.
- Maternity, obstetrical and gynecological care.
- Mental Illness treatment and Substance Use Disorder treatment.
