The Gallery Walk is built into many active learning modalities. It ranges from a formal poster presentation to the quick stick of post-its to a public wall. In Team-Based Learning (TBL), a Gallery Walk often follows the step of simultaneous display.
In all forms, the Gallery Walk involves participants walking around the room (or virtual space) to appreciate the products of other students/student teams. In many cases, it can be valuable to have observers vote on the best display. This voting can be done using an online Google Form and students can do this quickly on their phones.
In online synchronous or ascynchronous learning, students can go on a Gallery Walk using Padlet. We have also enjoyed doing formal poster presentations in Second Life, a virtual world!
In the picture to the right, you see our LAMP fellows engaging in a Gallery Walk where they share their ideas for instructional strategies.
