The Jonah Field is notably one of the most successful natural gas fields in Wyoming.
In the early years of development in the Pinedale Anticline Project Area (PAPA), the
McMurry Oil Company recognized the changing demand for energy and the potential to
develop natural gas to meet those demands. The owners of the company accurately predicted
natural gas to be a clean bringing fuel that could generate enough energy to satisfy
the growing demand for it. With the prices of natural gas still low, they decided
to invest in the inexpensive leases to produce the natural resource in the Jonah Field.
This priced to be a great investment for the company.
Natural gas production in the Jonah Field helped add to the infrastructure of the
energy economy in Wyoming.
