Cloud Peak Energy, which operates two coal mines in Wyoming and one in Montana, has sold the company as part of its bankruptcy proceedings to Navajo Transitional Energy Company (NTEC).

PacifiCorp plans to update their Foote Creek I wind farm with newer turbines that will allow for 80% fewer turbines while producing the same amount of energy. 

The Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) approved a permit for Roundhouse Wind Energy, LLC to construct and operate a wind farm west of Cheyenne. The proposed wind farm will have up to 120 turbines and is estimated to be completed by the end of 2020. 

Baker Hughes Rig Counts

 Baker Hughes reports the total rig counts for this week

  • The U.S. rig count is up 1 rig from last week to 935, with oil rigs up 6 to 770, gas rigs down 4 to 165.
  • The U.S. rig count is down 122 rigs from last years count of 1,057, with oil rigs down 99, gas rigs down 21, and miscellaneous rigs down 2.
  • The Wyoming rig count is up 1 to 37.
  • The Colorado rig count remains steady at 32.
  • The New Mexico rig count is up 2 to 111.
  • The North Dakota rig count is up 1 to 48.
  • The Texas rig count is down 4 to 450.

Opening Prices from Bloomberg Energy August 19

  • West Texas Intermediate (WTI) opened at $55.65, up from $52.88 last week.
  • Brent Crude opened at $59.31 down from last week's price of $57.74.
  • Natural Gas opened at $2.18, up from $2.12 last week.
