UW School of Energy Resources Appoints Ashli Tomisich as Director for Student Success and Experiential Learning

The University of Wyoming School of Energy Resources (SER) is pleased to welcome Ashli Tomisich as the Director for Student Success and Experiential Learning.

In her role with SER– which is an additional, part-time administrative position – Tomisich will serve students in the Energy Resource Management and Development (ERMD) Bachelor of Science degree program, Energy Resource Management minor, and Carbon Capture Utilization and Storage and Land Administration certificate programs. She will be tasked with connecting students with potential employers, facilitating opportunities for professional development, assisting with placement in internships and other engagement prospects, providing career guidance, and administering the SER mentorship program.

“SER’s mentorship program has focused on pairing freshmen and sophomores to be mentored by our junior and seniors,” says SER Academic Director Kami Danaei. “Bringing Ashli onboard allows us to take this one step further and connect our junior and senior students with an industry mentor in their intended career path.”

An additional component to SER’s mentorship program is an emphasis on professional development and experiential learning opportunities each semester. Students have previously visited offices and industry sites, including a recent trip to a hydraulic fracturing operation in northeast Wyoming. Tomisich will serve a key role in facilitating these opportunities for students to interface with experts on the ground and gain insights into energy sector careers.

“I am very excited to be working with the students in the School of Energy Resources,” says Tomisich. “I have been fortunate enough in my own career to see the value of connecting students with industry professionals early on in their educations and watching that engagement grow into mutually beneficial employment opportunities. SER already has an exceptional reputation and I look forward to helping elevate this program and its graduates further.”

Tomisich is the Assistant Director of the Ellbogen Center for Teaching and Learning (ECTL) where she works with each member of the ECTL team to facilitate faculty support and effective student learning. Having consistently demonstrated her commitment to classroom teaching excellence and a dedication to student and faculty success, her unique background and her current position will help develop SER students inside and outside the classroom.

A Wyoming native and licensed attorney, Tomisich completed her B.S. in Secondary Education from Oklahoma Christian University, her J.D. from the UW College of Law, and recently completed her Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration from UW. Professionally, she spent a period of time in litigation before serving as the Director of Career Services at the UW College of Law where she managed the career and professional development program for the school for over eight years.

“As we continue to strengthen our academic programs, we are excited to offer more resources to serve our students and position them for success in their careers,” adds Danaei. “Ashli is highly collaborative and has an exceptional skillset. She has shepherded a multitude of UW students into their professions with sound career guidance, as well as helped them navigate courses and professional opportunities. We could not be happier to have her bring that expertise to SER.”
