SER Academic Program Sends Student Cohort to 2024 NAPE Summit

Seven students in the School of Energy Resources’ (SER) academic program will attend the 2024 North American Petroleum Expo (NAPE) Annual Summit event taking place February 7-9 in Houston, Tex.

Founded in 1993 by the American Association of Professional Landmen (AAPL), NAPE is an organization to benefit the energy industry at large through programs such as education, legislative and regulatory advocacy, technical publications, public lands access efforts, scholarships and more.

Rachel Reese, of Johnstown, Colo.; Kendall Klos, of Johnsburg, Ill., Jacob Burns of Wheatland, Wyo., Connor Fleming of Huntersville, N.C., Micah Brant of Denver, Colo., Madalynn Gower of Parker, Colo., and recent graduate Jacob Schneider of Cincinnati, Ohio (B.S. ’23) will attend the annual event that boasts unmatched networking, career prospects, and informative panels and prominent speakers in the energy industry.

All seven of the students are pursuing the Professional Land Management (PLM) concentration in SER’s Energy Resource Management and Development (ERMD) bachelor of science program.

“This is a huge annual event that we look forward to sending students to every year,” says SER Academic Director Kami Danaei. “The connections that students make are incredibly valuable and it also affords them the chance to experience the scale and diversity of the career that they are about to embark upon in the energy sector.”

Departing for Houston a day before the event begins, the students will tour Shell at the invitation of UW and SER alumnus Sam Mallory (B.S. ’18). Currently working in mergers and acquisition valuation at Shell, Malloy also serves on the PLM industry advisory board at UW. While a student, Mallory was recognized as the American Association of Professional Landmen (AAPL) Outstanding Graduate.

Additionally, the group has been invited by the Foundation for Natural Resources and Energy Law to attend their “Oil and Gas and Renewable Energy Law” seminar.

Kristin Pritchett, the director of the PLM program and SER Academic Coordinator Tanner McClure will accompany the students on the trip.

“The NAPE Summit is a wonderful opportunity for students to really apply some of what they are learning in class, and listen to experts on a national-scale,” says Pritchett. “In addition to the incredible networking, we have a schedule packed full of informative talks and meetings with UW alumni, and students in other accredited programs. We are very grateful to Sam for taking time out of his busy schedule to provide our students with a behind-the-scenes look at what he does on a day-to-day basis, and also to the Foundation for going above and beyond to enhance the experience for our students.”

The UW crew will once again host a booth on the exhibition floor where students are eager to engage with energy professionals. The booth is located at booth number 1531Click here for the floor plan. All are invited to stop by!
