Cole Swisher Joins Financial Team at School of Energy Resources

The University of Wyoming School of Energy Resources (SER) is pleased to welcome Cole Swisher to the financial team.

A native of Gillette, Swisher recently earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Wyoming in Finance. During his undergraduate education, Swisher dedicated his spare time to maximizing his practical financial experience. He began working for SER in a part-time capacity as a finance and account assistant beginning in 2023. He later completed an internship in a similar position, boosting his proficiency and growth within the team.

In his new position as a grant accountant, he will play a key role in managing and optimizing energy grant programs, including overseeing grant compliance, preparing financial reports for grant-funded projects, and reconciling expenditures.

“Working under the SER umbrella alongside the financial team has been a rewarding path for me both personally and professionally,” says Swisher. “One of the biggest driving factors for me to stay at SER is the incredible mentorship I have received here. I now look forward to giving back and leveraging my experience to support the team, and amplify the impact of our grant-funded research.”

The research and mission of SER was also a big draw for Swisher.

“Even though much of what we do is very behind the scenes, research administration is what makes this job so interesting and worthwhile,” adds Swisher. “Growing up in Gillette, the energy sector has been a big part of my life and it feels really satisfying to be a part of something bigger and advancing Wyoming as a whole.”

The permanent addition of Swisher to SER reinforces the commitment to building a strong and capable financial team.

“Cole is a dedicated and detail-oriented professional who brings structure, reliability, and expertise to our team,” says SER Director of Business Operations Rachel Ferrell. “He began as a student worker and has steadily taken on greater responsibilities, showcasing his strong work ethic, precision, and deep understanding of our complex research portfolio. We are thrilled to retain his talent and institutional knowledge to support the continued success of our soft-funded research projects.”
