The School of Energy Resources (SER) is pleased to welcome Larissa Rutz as the Academic Coordinator.
In her new role, Rutz will focus on recruitment efforts for the academic programs at SER, conduct outreach with alumni and employment partners, and work to connect students with jobs and internships.

Larissa Rutz, SER Academic Coordinator
Originally from Boise, Id., Rutz was raised predominantly in Wyoming, where she forged a deep love for the state. Growing up in Douglas and Casper, she was regularly exposed to the core economic sectors of agriculture and energy, and has an appreciation for the way in which the energy industry is wrapped into the culture and livelihood of Wyoming.
“I grew up hearing about mineral leases, landmen, and oil field work,” says Rutz. “It’s interesting how that experience has come full circle and I now get to help students learn about the opportunities to explore and work in that industry through SER.”
Rutz earned her undergraduate degree in History from the University of Wyoming (UW) and is currently pursuing her master’s degree in Higher Education Administration. Her commitment to leadership and community engagement has been evident throughout her academic career, particularly within Greek and other on-campus student organizations. Notably, as a member of Alpha Phi, Rutz held key roles as chapter president and vice president of member education. She also dedicated her time to recruitment initiatives for both local and national Greek organizations.
Concurrently, Rutz worked for the UW Foundation as an annual giving intern, where she worked on campus-wide campaigns and donor relations. She also served as an advisor for the UW Cowbell Program, the online portal that manages student clubs and organizations.
Most recently, she worked for the University of Montana as the Assistant Director of Campus Engagement and Leadership.
At SER, Rutz will channel her enthusiasm and leadership development skills to help UW students find their pathways and set them up for success in their future careers.
“I am extremely passionate about speaking to students and helping them get involved on campus and in networking opportunities,” says Rutz. “I think it is so important for students to take advantage of the ample opportunities afforded to them and then leverage those experiences on their resumes to show how the things they are learning can be applied as a translatable skill for a job down the line.”
In addition to recruitment and outreach, Rutz will serve as the faculty advisor for the student club — the Student Chapter for Energy Resources. She will also assist with advising and career services for students pursuing any of SER’s academic credentials.
“Larissa is such an incredible fit for SER and will integrate seamlessly in our program to help elevate SER’s academic profile and boost student engagement,” says SER Academic Director Kami Danaei. “We are so excited to share in her eagerness and look forward to seeing students flourish under her guidance.” “I am super excited to return to UW,” adds Rutz. “It helped me find my passion for higher education, made me who I am, and shaped why I love what I do. I am thrilled to give back to the institution and pay it forward to other students.”
