Tuberculosis (TB) Testing
- There are two types of TB tests;
- Skin Test: A skin test is appropriate for students who require TB testing for school and/or employment. This test can be done at Student Health Monday - Wednesday.
- Blood Test: A blood test will be done at Student Health in all instances when a skin test is not appropriate. Typically, students are given a blood test if they may have had a prior BCG vaccine against tuberculosis.
- Tuberculosis testing performed outside of the United States is not accepted.
- If the tuberculosis blood test is positive (indicating that the student has been infected
with tuberculosis at some point in the past), the student will be sent for a chest
x-ray and meet with a Student Health Service clinician to determine if treatment is
appropriate.
- The cost of a chest x-ray (if needed) is ultimately the responsibility of the student. The Wyoming Department of Health is currently able to provide funding to cover the cost of x-rays, but this is subject to change.
- If treatment is needed for latent or active Tuberculosis, the Wyoming Department of Health will cover the copay (what insurance does not pay) for medications, resulting in no cost to the student.
