Let Your Story SOAR

Competency Based Learning

SOAR is a UW program that provides you with a way for you to turn what you do outside the classroom into meaningful, career-ready skills. Whether you’re leading a student org, doing undergrad research, studying abroad, or volunteering in the community, SOAR helps you track, reflect on and grow from those experiences. It’s all about connecting your interests and activities to skills that matter in the real world — like critical thinking, teamwork, leadership and communication.

You’ll use the Suitable app to track your progress, earn badges and build a portfolio you can share with employers or grad schools.

You can use the "Login Now" link to access SOAR or you can click on the SOAR icon in the WyoWeb navigation bar to login to the Suitable app.

You can encourage students to attend events and even easily import events into your WyoCourses gradebook for easy grading and/or extra credit! A video with these instructions is soon to follow; however these listed instructions will tell you how to add SOAR events to your gradebook today.

  1. Login to WyoCourses and navigate to the "Commons" link in the left hand navigation column.
  2. Once you have selected "Commons" you may need to authorize access to Canvas Commons to your WyoCloud account. If you have already done this, move onto step 3.
  3. Once you have granted access to your WyoCloud account, you now have access to all SOAR events. From the home page, simple search for the event you are wishing to add to your gradebook - an example would be "Saddle Up 2026".
  4. Click on the correct event and select "Import/Download".
  5. This will bring up a list of your current classes. Simple select the classes you wish to add the event to and select "Import to Course".
  6. Once imported, you can navigate back to your course shell, click on "Assignments" and view the event(s) you imported from "Commons".
  7. If the event(s) does not show up right away, try waiting a minute or two and refreshing your browser - it can take a minute for the events to populate in your course shell.
