Music Education

The Music Department at the University of Wyoming offers a degree in Music Education. This degree program has a required education license for students who will seek teaching employment after graduation. Students that decide to go into teaching will be required to apply for a teaching license and is some states will have to apply for extra state licensure. The Music Education program is accredited by National Association of Schools of Music (NASM) see the following weblink for more accreditation information https://nasm.arts-accredit.org/. Students will need to take the PRAXIS I and PRAXIS II exams prior to licensure please see the following link for more testing information https://www.ets.org/praxis/site/test-takers.html. Some states may require students to register with the EdTPA, please see the following link for more information https://www.edtpa.com/. For more information about education licensure and the Music Education program please contact Dr. Crystal Sieger at csieger@uwyo.edu. For general licensure and certification questions please contact Compliance and Review Specialist Erika Helgeson at ehelgeso@uwyo.edu. Every U.S. State, Territory, and District has their own licensing board for education and our institution must meet their requirements for a student to practice in that area. This means applying for a teaching license does not guarantee the ability to work in all U.S. areas and/or may require additional courses or field work or a state license for a student to obtain the ability to work in the U.S. area of their choice. Please click on the State, U.S. Territory, or U.S. District to see if our program meets, does not meet, or is unsure of meeting the requirements for a student to obtain a license and practice in the the following areas.
