Doctor of Nursing Practice

The Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree at the University of Wyoming offer a licensure component for Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) licensing. Every U.S. State, Territory, and District has their own licensing board for nursing and our institution must meet their requirements for a student to practice in that area. Students will be required to take one of two exams and pass to be eligible for licensure. The first exam a student can take is the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) – This one can be taken by both FNPs and PMHNPs, please see the weblink here for more information on the exam https://www.nursingworld.org/ancc/. The second exam is the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) – This one is only for FNPs, please see the weblink here for more information on the exam https://www.aanp.org/membership?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIwvuf3JD38QIVRG1vBB2bVAjcEAAYASAAEgJmTPD_BwE. Both of these exams lead to APRN national certification, but this also means even sitting for the APRN licensing examination does not guarantee the ability to work in all U.S. areas and/or may require additional courses or field work for a student to obtain the ability to work in the U.S. area of their choice. For more information please contact School of Nursing Academic Advisor, Dawn Carver at dcarver@uwyo.edu or at (307) 766-6565 or you can contact Academic Affairs Compliance and Review Specialist Erika Helgeson at ehelgeso@uwyo.edu or at 307-766-3423. Please select from the following list of U.S. States, Territories, or Districts to see if our program meets, may meet, may not meet, does not meet, or is unsure of meeting the requirements for a student to obtain a license and practice in the the following areas.
