Sheridan Research & Extension Center

The Sheridan Research and Extension Center (ShREC) is seven miles east of Sheridan at an elevation of 3,800 feet. ShREC is in the U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) Plant Hardiness Zone 4 with an average growing season of 120 days and average annual precipitation of 15 inches. The main station at Wyarno includes approximately 250 acres; field crops are dryland while vegetables and fruit trees are under irrigation. ShREC also manages sites at Sheridan College (SC), which are under irrigation. In addition, ShREC is managing the 450-acres Adams Ranch south of SC. The ranch owned by Whitney Benefits, includes approximately 240 acres of irrigated cropland.

Historic Wyarno Farm

  • ~300 acres of non-irrigated lands well suited for dryland agriculture, soil science, weed science, and restoration-related research
  • Forced-air drying ovens
