The School of Graduate Education is pleased to announce a funding program designed to recruit and support McNair Scholars for UW graduate programs. All master’s and doctoral degree programs are strongly encouraged to nominate eligible candidates for these awards. Students must be nominated by their department. Graduate programs & departments may nominate candidates for McNair Graduate Scholars positions for new graduate students who will matriculate at UW in Fall 2025. The McNair Graduate Scholar awards provide support for former McNair Scholars while working toward their graduate degrees.

The Carlton R. Barkhurst Writing Fellowship is made possible by a generous gift from the late Irene Ahlbom Barkhurst.

The Fellowship is intended to help PhD and master’s candidates finish their dissertation/thesis in a timely manner.

The Institute for Citizens & Scholars fellowships uphold a proud tradition of investing in exceptional people and transformative ideas to strengthen democracy. Each fellowship has its own eligibility criteria, typically recruiting annually and providing funding to individuals, institutions, or organizations.

The U.S. National Science Foundation Directorate for STEM Education works to develop a well-informed citizenry and a diverse and capable workforce of scientists, technicians, engineers, mathematicians and educators.

The Morris K. Udall and John S. McCain III Native American Graduate Fellowship in Tribal Policy (Native American Graduate Fellowship) recognizes outstanding Native American and Alaska Native graduate students who are currently pursuing advanced degrees in health care fields—including, but not limited to, health administration, health education, public health, medical practice, policy, research, or related-degrees—and who have demonstrated a commitment to Native health care. The Native American Graduate Fellowship Program honors the legacies of Morris K. Udall and John S. McCain III.

The Department of Energy National Nuclear Security Administration Stewardship Science Graduate Fellowship (DOE NNSA SSGF)

provides excellent financial benefits and professional development opportunities to students pursuing degrees in stewardship science areas: materials under extreme conditions, nuclear science or high energy density physics. Together, these fields of study address complex science and engineering problems critical to stewardship science. 

 

The Department of Energy Computational Science Graduate Fellowship (DOE CSGF), provides outstanding opportunities to students pursuing doctoral degrees in fields that use high-performance computing to solve complex science and engineering problems. The program fosters a community of energetic and committed Ph.D. students, alumni, DOE laboratory staff and scientists who want to have an impact on the nation while advancing their research.

Hundreds of graduate students and holders of doctorates come to the Smithsonian to do independent research under the guidance of a member of our world-class research staff. Fellows have the opportunity to study and work intensively with Smithsonian collections and experts in their fields and beyond.
