Meet Kendra Cowley: UW’s Graduate Research and Engagement Librarian
Hi Everyone, my name is Kendra (she/her), and I am the new Graduate Research and Engagement Librarian at UW. I wanted to take a second to introduce myself and let people know a bit about the different resources available to grad students through UW Libraries.
In July, I moved here from Toronto, Ontario, where I was a public librarian working both in the branch, and inside Toronto detention centers. Prior to becoming a librarian, I worked as an adult educator for a program similar to the Wyoming Pathways from Prison program and as a youth worker at a women’s shelter. My current research builds off these experiences, and looks at how Canadian public library workers are experiencing and organizing around the toxic drug supply crisis and its impact on their patrons, communities, and work conditions.
In addition to the grad librarian, I am the Humanities, International Studies, and Political Science liaison. If you have research questions in any of these fields, I am your person! If you are in a different department, I would be happy to introduce you to the right liaison librarian. Through UW Libraries, you can get one-on-one help from subject librarians who know your field, plus access to over 1000 specialized databases and a huge print collection. If we don't have something you need, no worries—we can get it through Prospector or Interlibrary Loans for free. We also offer support for citation management tools and workshops to help you stay organized. When you're ready to share your work, you can archive it in WyoScholar or manage your data through the Wyoming Data Repository. Studio Coe is a multimedia lab where students and instructors can get help with digital projects like video editing, podcasting, virtual reality, and access the full Adobe Creative Suite. And if you need space to work, we've got reservable study rooms, recording studios, quiet study floors, collaborative pods, a media room, and an Assistive Technology station. Hot tip: the geology library also has reservable study rooms and some great quiet spots if you need a change of scenery.
Meeting with students is one of the best parts of my job. Please reach out if you have any research or library questions. You can find me at kcowley@uwyo.edu, book a time to meet, or come visit me in the Education and Research office on the 3rd floor of Coe Library.
