Construction Report for July 25-31, 2025
Announcements:
Class Change Over: Reminder to avoid driving in Prexy's Pasture during class changeover. Pull over vehicle for duration of class changeover.
Annual Steam Shutdown (June 26 - August 6, 2025):
Our annual steam shutdown is scheduled for Thursday, June 26th and will end Wednesday, August 6th.
General notes about the annual steam shutdown:
- Some buildings have a permanent or summer back up domestic water heating system which
will supply 110° F hot water during the outage period. They are: Science Initiative,
Arts and Sciences, Bureau of Mines, Coe Library Book-N-Bean, Energy Innovation Center,
Engineering Education Research Building, Field House, Field House North, Half Acre
Gym, High Altitude Performance Center, Hoyt Hall, Ag C, Knight Hall, Old Main, Ross
Hall Dining, Service Building, STEM, Student Health/Cheney, High Bay Research Facility,
Tobin and the Student Union.
- Backup building heat systems are available at: Energy Innovation Center – 3rd floor,
Engineering Education Research Building, Science Initiative Building, High Bay Research Facility, Engineering Addition, Ag Addition, Anthropology, STEM and Bio Sciences – 5th floor vivarium. - Backup autoclaves are available at: Ag C Rm 5024, Animal Sciences Molecular Biology autoclave room
and Bio Sciences 427.
- A backup cage washer is located on the 5th floor of Bio Sciences.
- The State Vet Chem and BSL-3 Lab buildings are not affected by the shutdown and have
autoclave capability.
- The portable boiler for the Washakie Complex will again be in place, so the complex will have domestic hot water for Downey, Orr, McIntyre & Washakie (installed week of June 16th).

Interactive Construction Map – The best quick reference for active capital construction projects, both vertical and civil maps are available. Vehicle Access to Core Campus - Vehicular traffic flow onto core campus will be restricted. Every effort must be made to keep vehicles off of the Prexy’s area during peak passing periods. The Berry Gate access, at 9 ½ Lewis street, will be the only access. Incoming vehicles must pass through this controlled entrance utilizing an authorized WyoOne card.
Information on Capital Construction Projects - Planning & Construction
Ongoing & Current Projects:
Bioscience Sidewalk (GE Johnson & MSI) - The sidewalk on the SE corner of Bioscience will be closed for excavation in order
to repair a hot water loop break. Please find alternate walking routes in this area
to avoid the active construction.
Casper Family Practice Clinic Renovations (GH Phipps of Wyoming) – South driveway and southwest parking lots are currently closed to access - all foot traffic be diverted to west entrance(s) utilizing a flagged walkway on south side. Building renovations include the main [south] entry, lobby, clinic area restrooms, flooring, second floor administrative areas, and HVAC systems. Site improvements include parking lot drainage, surfacing and lighting, and installation of underground stormwater controls. Please use caution around construction activities, equipment, and materials.
Crane Hall Abatement and Remodel - (UW Operations & Colorado Hazard Control; February
2025 thru August 2025) Abatement is currently underway on the 6th floor and will include floor 5th, 4th, 3rd and all stairwells 1st-6th floors. Construction remodeling will follow the abatement and will include work to
the ceilings, floors, electrical and fire alarm systems. Please expect increased noise
levels at times during the construction process, please use caution around all construction
processes and expect closures to some floors and stairwells. Project is expected to
be ongoing.
Energy Innovation Center (Harrison Western) – Atrium, Patio, Encana Auditorium & South
Parking Lot - Repair work at the Energy Innovation Center (EIC), including the Atrium, Patio, Encana
Auditorium, and the parking lot immediately south of the building, will begin in early
June and is expected to continue for 4 to 8 weeks.
Impacts during this period will include:
- Limited or restricted use of the Atrium, Patio, and Encana Auditorium
- Full closure of all south-side parking spaces for construction staging
- Continued access to the Geology loading dock and adjacent dumpsters will be maintained
Engineering (UW Operations) - There will be maintenance painting in the Engineering Building for the next several
weeks (starting the last week of April). Please use caution in areas where painting
is occurring and follow all signage.
Health Science/Classroom Building: A Chilled Water Repair is happening between the Health Science and Classroom Building.
Flagstone seating area temporarily closed so UW Operations can access tunnel hatch
for offloading materials and construction activities.
Memorial Fieldhouse - Tennis & Wrestling Offices (GH Phipps of Wyoming) – Construction is underway for the Memorial Fieldhouse Tennis & Wrestling Offices,
located in a shell space on the second floor west wing of Memorial Fieldhouse. Temporary
protections have been installed along the first and second floor main corridors, and
ramping has been added to a portion of the north stairwell. The project will involve
periodic, temporary utility shutdowns (heating, electrical, etc.). Please exercise
caution around construction crews and equipment, and be mindful of posted signage.
Memorial Fieldhouse - Condensate Mains Replacement (Risk Removal, Summer 2025) – Ceiling demolition and abatement of asbestos-containing utilities insulation (including
steam, condensate, hydronic supply and return lines, etc.) will begin on May 19 throughout
the first-floor main corridors of Memorial Fieldhouse. This work is being performed
in preparation for the future replacement of the building’s condensate mains, and
is necessary to safely access and remove outdated infrastructure.
Work will be phased to maintain access to all occupied areas of the building that require continued operation. Temporary barriers and signage will be installed around each active phase to ensure occupant safety and minimize disruption. The project will involve periodic, temporary utility shutdowns (e.g., heating, electrical). Please exercise caution around construction crews and equipment, and remain mindful of all posted signage.
Physical Sciences, Room 14 Remodel - Construction will begin on the remodel of Physical Science room 14. This will include
some concrete removal, involving jack hammers and concrete saws. There will be workers
removing construction waste using the service elevator. A roll off dumpster will
be placed next to the loading dock. Electrical conduit will be installed in the hall
way between the electrical room and room 14. Expect general construction work movement
in the basement hallway of Physical science. Please use caution in construction area.
Pilot Hill Inc. - Pilot Hill Trailhead Improvement Project (May, 2025 thru November,
2025) – Pilot Hill Inc. is constructing a parking area with restroom building and outdoor
shelter East of Jacoby Golf Course near the Jacoby Ridge Trail and North of Willett
Drive. Foundation concrete work and site grading is underway. Note utility work in
Willett Drive has started and there will be intermittent street closures. Please use
caution in the work area and follow all construction signage.
Science Initiative - Utility De-Coupling (Underground Worx, Laramie, WY) – Disruptions to the building’s hot and chilled water services will occur as part
of the installation of flat plate heat exchangers for the building’s heating and cooling
systems. Shutdowns required for this work will impact the building’s HVAC systems
and may affect hot water and chilled water services in research spaces, laboratories,
climate-controlled areas, and other spaces within the building. Disruptions are expected
to begin as early as March of this year and may occur periodically until August. Once
planned shutdowns have been scheduled, additional notice and updates will be provided
to the building occupants directly. Please plan accordingly and exercise caution around
affected areas.
Student Housing and Dining Project (JE Dunn Construction, Inc., Denver, CO) – Please review the map found here for site access and traffic logistics. Roofing and exterior masonry is in progress on both halls. Site work is expanding on both halls including storm drainage and finished grade prep for some limited hardscapes. Interior finishes and MEP install is progressing on both halls per schedule. Please observe all detour signage and use caution around the active construction areas. The 15th St. corridor will remain closed from Sorority to Lewis ( see attached for new 15th street phasing plan) 15th is open from Grand to Sorority. Please observe all detour and closure signs. The west side of the project will remain secured as is pending some additional landscaping review. Lewis waterline work is complete and Lewis street and the education parking lot is open.
Student Housing project work planned for the upcoming month:
- Dining and North Hall finishes.
- North and South Hall MEP and finish activities.
- 15th Street grading and hardscape continuation north through Lewis St.
- Exterior stone install on North Hall.
- Drywall and painting activities in both halls.
- Site hardscapes.
- North Hall punch list.
- North Hall exterior punch list.
- Window commissioning.
- North Hall elevator inspections.
- Commissioning and start-up activities
UW Aquatics Center (October, 2024 thru August, 2026) - The staging and work area for the UW Aquatics Center will be in place thru August, 2026. Please use caution in the work area.

War Memorial Stadium West Stands Renovation (GE Johnson, Inc., Jackson, WY; January,
2026) – The south Fieldhouse (or east Corbett) parking lot and adjacent south and east sidewalks
are closed. The west stands including the area underneath the west stands and east
of the Memorial Fieldhouse are also closed for construction activities. Please review
the map found HERE for site access and traffic/pedestrian detour routes to campus. Please observe all
detour and construction signage including using caution in the area.
Willett Street Exterior Lighting (July 31, 2025): Parking on Willett from the 15th-18th blocks will be occasionally blocked due to ongoing installation of new street lighting. Estimated completion date is July 31, 2025.
