Members of the University of Wyoming Police Department work with members of the Laramie Police Department and Albany County Sheriff's Office to put on an annual Active Shooter Course available to local law enforcement. Each course is designed to prepare officers for an active threat situation.
For officers who have never taken the course, there is an 8-hour class, whereas returning officers may take the 4-hour refresher course. Each course has a classroom education, tactical education and a scenario based training section. Scenario's are unique, and are tailored towards both individual group based responses.
Every year the University of Wyoming Police department partners with local Law Enforcement groups to learn new techniques and practice active shooter scenarios. Scenarios are held in various buildings in Albany County that provide their own set of unique challenges and techniques. Other Law Enforcement entities that attend are members of the Wyoming Highway Patrol, Wyoming Game and Fish, Wyoming State Parks, Wyoming DCI, Albany County Sheriff's Office, and the Laramie Police Department.
