Seizure First Aid Ready Course
This 30-minute course provides an overview for people who: Want to learn the basics of seizure first aid
- Have a job where you work with the public or work with someone who has seizures
- Coach or lead groups
- Work, play or live in areas or settings where seizures could occur
This course aims to increase knowledge in applying seizure first aid. Information is presented in an interactive eLearning format with animations, videos, and activities to help learners become seizure first aid ready.
A Certificate of Completion is provided.
Seizure First Aid Training & Certification
Everyone should have the knowledge and confidence to provide first aid to someone having a seizure. This 90-minute Seizure Recognition and First Aid Certification is a formal training offered by the Epilepsy Foundation of Colorado and Wyoming.
This training is designed for anyone who wants to know:
- How to recognize signs of a seizure
- How to respond with proper seizure first aid
- When to call for help
This training provides a 2-year certification and IACET Continuing Education Unit (CEU) and CHES®/MCHES® Continuing Education Credits.
Seizure Training for School Nurses: Caring for Students
This 2-hour and 45-minute training is designed to provide the school nurse with information, strategies, and resources that will enable him/her to better manage the student with seizures.
2.75 CNE Continuing Education Credits are provided.
Seizure Training for School Nurses: Caring for Students with Psychogenic Seizures
This 1-hour program is designed to provide the school nurse with information and resources to gain a better understanding of caring for students with psychogenic seizures. By the end of this course, participants will have the tools and knowledge to help children and youth with PNES.
1.0 CNE Continuing Education Credits are provided.
Seizure Training for School Nurses: Using Rescue Therapies in Epilepsy Care
This 75-minute program is designed to provide the school nurse with information and resources to gain a better understanding of rescue therapies for seizures. By the end of this course, participants will gain the knowledge, skills, and confidence in using rescue therapies for children/youth with epilepsy and supporting them in a school setting.
1.25 CNE Continuing Education Credits are provided.
Training for Other School Personnel
This 60 to 75-minute program is designed for individuals who work with children and youth in school settings. This program provides an overview of seizures and epilepsy, seizure first aid, seizure action plans, rescue therapies, seizure emergencies, and how to support students in school settings. This course is appropriate for school nurses, teachers, aides, coaches, administrators, and anyone who works in a school setting.
Certificates of Completion, CHES™/MCHES™ Continuing Education Credits, and IACET Continuing Education Units (CEU) are provided.
Programs and Services
The Epilepsy Foundation of Colorado and Wyoming offers a wide range of programs and services designed to support individuals and families affected by epilepsy. From support groups and leadership opportunities to educational retreats, employment services, and mental health resources, the Foundation helps people connect, grow, and thrive. Explore the opportunities below to see how the Foundation can support you or your loved ones on your epilepsy journey.
The Epilepsy Walks bring our communities together to make a difference for the people we love who live with epilepsy. The walks are held annually in varying locations across Colorado and Wyoming.
These groups provide positive educational and emotional support for people living with epilepsy and their families. All groups currently meet virtually over Zoom, allowing participation from anywhere in Colorado or Wyoming. Dedicated, trained volunteers lead these sessions.
CAN is a leadership group for adults living with or connected to epilepsy who support each other and the community through planning and implementing projects in their local community.
An opportunity to share your story with someone who understands or seek support for a specific hurdle you are facing.
Youth Council is for teens/young adults ages 11-22 who have been diagnosed with epilepsy or are a sibling or a child of a person who has been diagnosed with epilepsy. If you are compelled to make a difference and speak out about epilepsy, this could be the opportunity for you!
Camps & Retreats provide recreation and connection opportunities for children, teens, adults and families whose lives are impacted by epilepsy. They help individuals build confidence, make connections, and have fun! Full and partial scholarships are available.
epilepsyWORKS! will create employment opportunities and a guided path toward meaningful and sustained employment for those in Colorado & Wyoming with epilepsy. The program supports employment seekers through job search efforts, LinkedIn profile review, application submission, and mock interviews.
This program consists of periodic check-ins that are used to provide updates, identify resources and solutions to specific concerns regarding epilepsy.
This program trains therapists to work effectively with people with epilepsy and non-epileptic seizures. We offer partial reimbursement for services from therapists that have joined our network.
This free, eight-week, Zoom-based self-management program for adults helps participants develop coping and goal-setting strategies to improve overall and specific aspects of life.
This fund offers financial support to individuals affected by epilepsy. Funding is based on many factors, including specific circumstances and the current Foundation budget.

Wyoming Guide
This guide was written with parents in mind to give some very basic information, including an introduction to epilepsy and seizure disorders. It is not intended to provide medical advice. Any questions related to the medical treatment of your child should always be addressed to your child’s pediatrician, family physician, or neurologist. While this guide may not provide all of the information you are looking for, it should help you begin your search. The Guide includes information about the additional resources that we hope will be useful as you.
To be completed by the team including the nurse, school personnel, parent, and neurologist. The Seizure Action Plan ensures accurate documentation and communication about the child-specific seizure first aid protocol. It is intended to be completed at the beginning of the school year, when a change in health status occurs, or upon diagnosis.
