    About

My research is focused around the principle of creating value through ideas. In most of my research I have focused on developing public policies to improve social welfare, taking into account the coupling between human and natural systems.  My research seeks to understand (1) how coupled human and natural systems co-evolve over time and space in the presence of regime shifts, uncertainty, market failure and behavioral failures, and (2) how we can use information about the coupling between human and natural systems to construct public policies in the face of current and future threats and move society towards more sustainable outcomes. In this work I have recently:

    1. Developed integrated economic/epidemiological models for current and future management of infectious disease threats facing humans.
    2. Developed integrated economic/epidemiological models for current and future management of infectious diseases in wildlife managed populations.
    3. Developed integrated economic/ecological models for advising optimal endangered species listing decisions.
    4. Developed integrated economic/ecological models for advising optimal management of renewable resources facing potential future regime shifts.
    5. Developed integrated economic/ecological models for optimal management of economic and ecological systems subject to the risk of nonindigenous species invasion.
    6. Developed integrated economic/ecological models for optimal management of native pests.
