How to Use the Archive

American Heritage Center

Starting Your Research                                                                                               As you begin your research here at the American Heritage Center, there are several strategies that may help you to shape your topic and select archival collections you wish to use.Learn more about our collecting areas and our holdings. You can browse our collections by subject area to discover a sampling of the collections we hold in each subject area. A growing portion of AHC holdings is available though our Digital Collections. This online portal includes various collection materials such as photographs, letters, journals, audio recordings and other textual and audio-visual material.
Additional Search Options                                                                                         For a comprehensive search of our archival collections, we recommend searching the University of Wyoming's Online Catalog. If you are interested in learning what a particular collection contains, we recommend searching our finding aids (also called inventories or collection guides). Our finding aids are accessible on a separate website. To search our finding aids, visit Archives West , enter the collection's title (Nellie Tayloe Ross, for example) in the "Word Search" field, and then select "University of Wyoming" in the "Institution" field.Whether you visit the AHC in person or request copies or scans of collection material, you'll be asked which boxes you would like to use.
