Tours
Museum Tour Program
The Museum Tour Program provides pre-K through 12 students and teachers with essential learning experiences, utilizing original art work as the focal point for art and interdisciplinary investigations. Under the guidance of a master teacher, students view and discuss two and three dimensional art, and explore the concepts and context of the work through creative processes, such as writing and art-making, building on personal ideas generated by what they observe and discuss. The education team, including a master teacher, will work with teachers to design tours that address specific classroom goals and standards across disciplinary areas (art, writing, science, social studies and more). Contact Wendy Bredehoft , Education Curator at (307)766-3496 or wbredeho@uwyo.edu to schedule a school tour or Heather Bender, Master Teacher, at (307)766-3515.
We provide expanded in-depth learning opportunities for university and college classes exploring ways to use original art, artists and scholars as resources and inspiration for research, teaching across disciplines and creative response. The education team will work with faculty to design classes that are tailored to meet the needs of individual groups. If you are interested in developing an ongoing partnership that provides additional resources and support for your classroom goals, contact Wendy at wbredeho@uwyo.edu.
Curricular materials and study guides are available on our Web site (www.uwyo.edu/artmuseum). Click on "education," and then click on "for teachers" to view historical and contextual materials for your use prior, during and after the museum visit. In addition, we can connect visiting artists with your students. Contact an education team member for more information.
We also design general tours for civic and community groups. Our museum docents are trained to engage viewers of all ages in exploring the art work on exhibit this season. Sculpture tours of Prexy's Pasture and Laramie are available upon request. For more information on how to schedule a tour or utilize our resources, call the Education Office at (307) 766-3496.
The Museum Tour Program is made possible in part by the Ruth R. Ellbogen Foundation and the Wyoming Arts Council through the National Endowment for the Arts and the Wyoming State Legislature.
