Susan Weidel joined the legal staff of the University of Wyoming in 1997. She provides legal advice to the University on a variety of issues including employment law, intellectual property, and complex contractual and real estate matters. She also handles all legal issues related to intercollegiate athletics, student health and fine arts matters.
Prior to joining the University's legal staff, Ms. Weidel practiced law in Chicago. She was the Chief Legal Counsel for several criminal justice agencies in the State of Illinois. She also served as an Assistant Attorney General and as a staff member to former Illinois Governor, James R. Thompson. She is a 1983 graduate of DePaul University, College of Law in Chicago.
Tara Evans joined the legal staff of the University of Wyoming part time in 2008 as Associate General Counsel, while working as a Special Assistant to the President of the University of Wyoming. She now works full time as Deputy General Counsel representing the University in internal administrative hearings, including student discipline and employment actions, and external equal employment opportunity, civil rights, workers’ compensation, and unemployment matters and hearings. Tara also advises the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics on NCAA compliance issues and assists the campus community with contracts and regulatory compliance.
Tara is a Wyoming native and graduated from the UW College of Law in the spring of 2006. She also received her bachelor's of science in Molecular Biology from UW in December 2002. Prior to joining the University's legal staff, Tara was a legal clerk at the United States Court of Appeals for Veteran's Claims in Washington D.C. and also worked as Assistant Attorney General for the Wyoming Attorney General's Office in Cheyenne practicing water and natural resource law.
Ashley Guritza joined the legal staff of the University of Wyoming in 2012. She provides legal advice to the university on a variety of issues including export control, human subject research and animal research. Ashley is a Wyoming native who received her B.A. from UW in Political Science in 2009 and her J.D. in 2012. She is a licensed attorney in the State of Wyoming.
Missy Samp is the Legal Assistant for the Office of General Counsel. She joined the legal team in 2010. She provides administrative assistance for the legal staff. Her duties include: managing the contract log, reviewing and providing opinions on standard university contracts, maintaining the institutional electronic files, and preparing and reconciling the budget.
Missy has worked at the University of Wyoming since 2002. She has provided administrative support to the Wyoming Survey & Analysis Center (WYSAC), the former Graduate School, and the Honors Program. She received her bachelor’s degree in English: Journalism from Chadron State College in Chadron, Nebraska.
