December 6, 2018 — Nearly two years ago, Michael Cheadle, together with fellow Professor Barbara John and UW Lab school teacher Theresa Williams, launched a small sailboat, dubbed “The Jackalope” in the Pacific Ocean with the hope it would wash up on some distant shore and be discovered. The Jackalope traveled about 7,600 miles, during its 190-day voyage.

October 21, 2018 — Tom Ashley was awarded the prize for best graduate student presentation at the Rocky Mountain/Cordilleran GSA meeting in Flagstaff.

October 21, 2018 — McKenzee Peterson was a student speaker at the 2018 Honours Convocation.

October 10, 2018 — Associate Professor Brandon McElroy will discuss his summer 2018 research in the Selenga River Delta at a GGS round table discussion Friday November 16, 12-1pm. The Selega Rover delta is geomorphologically unique and an internationally recognized wetland. Brendon will address Quaternary changes to the delta and the complex interaction of tectonics and sediment transport.

April 30, 2018 — Professor Barbara John awarded a 2018 Distinguished Alumni Award from the University of California Santa Barbara
