Honorary Degree

Tracy Ringolsby, Doctor of Letters (Litt.D.)

It has been said that Tracy Ringolsby may be the most widely-read writer ever produced by the University of Wyoming. A native of Cheyenne, Ringolsby has distinguished himself as one of the foremost sports writers in the United States. From coast to coast, he has covered every aspect of baseball in a career that has spanned more than 30 years. A former president of the Baseball Writers Association of America and co-founder of the magazine Baseball America, his work culminated in his recognition by his peers as the 2005 recipient of baseball's J. G. Taylor Spink Award and his induction into the National Baseball Hall of Fame. And through it all, he has remained one of the greatest ambassadors for Wyoming and its university. Known as the "Cowboy from Wyoming" in the press box and the broadcaster's booth, he has proudly displayed his well-worn cowboy hat and UW's colors at every game he has covered. While most baseball fans don't naturally think of Wyoming when they think of America's favorite past time, they will forever remember it as the home of one of sports journalism's greatest contributors.

For all of your contributions, Tracy Ringolsby, we are honored to bestow upon you the degree of Doctor of Letters, honoris causa.
