The University of Wyoming Greek Community officially recognized Sigma Iota Rho (SIR) on August 22, 1984. The University of Wyoming is Delta (the fourth) chapter and also a founding chapter of Sigma Iota Rho.
The selection of the Greek letters was carefully chosen to reflect the characteristics of the three basic qualities of study of international relations: Sigma stands for synesi, which stands for prudence; Iota stands for ideosi, which stands for ideals; Rho stands for romi, which stands for power.
