When you make a gift to the Global & Area Studies Program, you can make it possible for our students to do great things. A financial gift to the International Studies Internship/Research Excellence Fund can help students participate in a study abroad opportunity or internship, travel to conferences, or conduct research, particularly in a foreign locale.
Another gifting option is to the International Studies Endowment that was established in 2009, which provides general funding for our program. To date, proceeds from this endowment have supported the International Studies Scholars Lecture Series and student activities. The speakers series brings noted internationally-focused speakers to the UW campus and to locations around the state. Lectures and symposia have been given on topics such as the the the Mexican revolution, Kristallnacht, the recent global financial crisis, and the global competiton for energy. Through this series we have also partnered with other acdaemic departments to sponsor talks by noted authors such as Salman Rushdie and Michael Ondaatje. Student activities have included a trip to the Conference on World Affairs and hosting a Thanksgiving potluck for international students on campus.
If you would like to contribute to one of these funds, please contact me and we can discuss how this could be done, or you can peruse the UW Foundation website and explore alternative ways to give. On behalf of all of us associated with the International Studies Program, I want to assure your gift will be put to good use.
Jean Garrison, Director of the Global & Area Studies Program
