There are many external scholarship opportunities for which you might be eligible. Below is a selection of scholarships offered in the Fall/Winter and Spring/Summer. You may also want to register with a free online scholarship search site such as FastWeb, BigLawInvestor, and AccessLex.

Buckfire and Buckfire, P.C. Law School Diversity Scholarship The committee will select one winner to be awarded $2,000. Applications are open to students who are members of ethnic, racial, or other minority groups or demonstrate commitment to issues of diversity within their community.

Buckfire and Buckfire, P.C. Disability Scholarship Program The committee will select one winner to be awarded $1,000. Applications are open to students with any type of disability.

November 15

Scott Sneft Scholarship Fund This scholarship is Scott Sneft's way of contributing to and encouraging those sharing his goal to improve the lives of the less fortunate through all legal services. The $1,500 that this scholarship offers is meant for students entering a field where the law is concerned.

Altman & Altman Law School Scholarship One Scholarship of $1,500 for a JD candidate who is concerned with the need and affordability if legal services in the United States, with a preference to students who have personal or educational connections to the Boston Metropolitan area.

Allen Tittle's Medical Malpractice Scholarship Tittle & Perlmuter want to raise awareness to the growing issue of medical malpractice in the world of healthcare by offering a scholarship of $1,000 to incoming and continuing college students.

Morgan & Morgan: For the People Scholarship Attorneys at Morgan & Morgan have dedicated their work to being "for the people", which extends beyond the courtroom. They want to inspire young lawyers to approach their careers with the same mindset. $5,000 will be awarded to an individual who is either accepted or currently enrolled in law school, and who is driven to fight for those who need it most.

Arnold & Itkin LLP Academic Scholarship Arnold & Itkin LLP will award $5,000 to two current law students who share their passion for assisting the underprivileged and the victims of tragedy. Regardless of the area of law, the scholarship recipients should be focused on utilizing the legal system to support those less fortunate.

American Law School Scholarship One scholarship of $1,000 will be awarded to an undergraduate or law student who is committed to improving the access ro and affordability of legal services, with preference given to this who have a personal or educational connection to the Boston community.

Embry Law Firm Scholarship $1,500 will be awarded to one deserving student who is pursuing their educational goals and preparing for their future education aspirations.

The Davis Law Group, P.C. Scholarship One scholarship of $1,000 will be awarded to a first-year students enrolled at or accepted into colleges, universities, ot ABA-accredited law schools in the U.S. are encouraged to apply.

The Tilem & Associates, P.C. Scholarship One scholarship of $1,000 will be awarded to an undergraduate student or law student who is determined in addressing the strengths and weaknesses of the U.S. Criminal Justice System.

Allen F. Friedman College or Law Student for Justice Scholarship One scholarship of $750 will be awarded to a student who exemplifies their passion and interest in seeking justice.

The Law Firm of Jeremy Rosenthal College Scholarship $1,000 will be awarded to one student who has a record of academic achievement.

Mark Sherman Law Juvenile Justice Scholarship One scholarship of $1,000 will be awarded to one student who has an interest in working with young people who have already been convicted of a crime and have spent time in jail. The Law Office of Mark Sherman wants to award this scholarship to a student who has experienced and overcome adversity in their life and can relate to these juveniles who are rebuilding their lives post-conviction.

The Powers Law Firm Scholarship Essay Contest One scholarship of $1,000 will be awarded to an eligible law student, graduate or undergraduate student who is interested in studying/working in the criminal justice field.

The Dominguez Firm Legal Scholarship Award One scholarship of $2,500 will be awarded to a law student who demonstrates academic excellence and a commitment to the community. The purpose of this scholarship is to encourage and assist motivated law students in fulfilling their ambitions in the spirit of giving back.

Arent Fox Diversity Scholarship The Arent Fox offices in Boston, Washington D.C., Los Angeles, New York, and San Francisco will award one second-year law student $20,000 and a salaried position one of their five offices. The scholarship will be paid in two installments of $10,000 during the second-year summer and another $10,000 payable when the student returns to Arent Fox as an associate after graduation.

February 5

Akin Gump, Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP Diversity and Inclusion Scholarship Program 1L Students who value diversity and want to help strengthen diversity and inclusion efforts in the legal industry will be awarded a scholarship of $25,000. The first-half of the scholarship ($12,500) is awarded upon honoring their commitment to return to the firm as a 2L summer associate, and the second-half ($12,500) is paid upon their commitment to return to the firm as a first-year associate following law school graduation.

Akin Gump, Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP Pro Bono Scholarship Program The summer after your 1L year, you'll spend seven to eight weeks working for your choice of a public interest group and four weeks with the firm. You will be paid the summer associate salary while employed with the firm and receive a stipend totaling $22,000 for your time in the public interest organization. The first-half of the stipend ($11,000) is paid when you start working with the public interest group. The second-half of the stipend is paid when you honor your commitment to return as a summer associate after your 2L year.

Akin Gump, Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP Financial Restructuring (Bankruptcy) Diversity & Inclusion Scholars Program To further our diversity and inclusion efforts, we offer diverse law students the opportunity to join one of the firm’s globally recognized practices and gain early practice experience with our Financial Restructuring practice. Across two summers, Financial Restructuring Diversity & Inclusion Scholars will work directly with the practice, be mentored by leading practitioners and engage in meaningful diversity and inclusion initiatives. Students will receive a $25,000 scholarship. During the first summer ($12,500), scholars will spend six weeks with the firm, followed by four weeks at a firm client. Financial Restructuring Diversity & Inclusion Scholars commit to return to the firm as a 2L summer associate ($12,500) and commit to working in the financial restructuring practice.

February 5

Udall Foundation's Native American Congressional Internship Funded by the Native Nations Institute for Leadership, Management, and Policy, this Udall internship provides American Indian and Alaska Native students with the opportunity to gain practical experience with the federal legislative process. Interns learn first-hand the government-to-government relationship between tribes and the federal government.

Joe Rudd Scholarship and RMMLF Scholarship Awards The Rocky Mountain Mineral Law Foundation has two scholarship programs for full-time law students. A law student who demonstrates a commitment to the study of natural resources law is eligible to apply. Recent rewards have ranged from $1,000 to $10,500.

March 1

Alaska Bar Association Law School Scholarship The Alaska Bar Association offers scholarships to first and second-year law students who demonstrate ties to Alaska and have an intent to return to Alaska upon graduation. 

March 10 A-1 Auto Transport Scholarship Three scholarships worth $1,000, $500, and $250 will be awarded to any current student with a minimum GPA of 3.0.

FCBA Foundation Law School Scholarship This scholarship provides financial assistance to rising second and third-year students currently enrolled in an accredited law school that demonstrate an interest in pursuing a a career in communications law. Students can be awarded scholarships ranging from $6,000 to $8,600.

Type Media Center Robert Masur Fellowship in Civil Liberties Fellowship This fellowship competition is open to first-year law students who intend to carry out significant activities during their summer (between their first and second year) in the areas of civil rights and/or liberties. Fellows each receive a $2,000 honorarium.

George H. Nofer Scholarship for Law and Public Policy This scholarship is for Law and Public Policy is for full-time graduate students with a pre-lingual bilateral hearing loss in the moderately-severe to profound range, who use listening and spoken language as their primary method of communication, and who are attending full-time an accredited mainstream law school or graduate school working towards a masters or doctoral degree in public policy or public administration. Up to three awards of up to $5,000 each may be awarded per year.

ABA Legal Opportunity Scholarship Fund The ABA Legal Opportunity Scholarship grants 20 incoming diverse law students with $15,000 of financial assistance over the course of their three years in law school. Last year's deadline was in April.

American Association for Justice AAJ has four scholarships available for qualified law students: Richard D. Hailey Scholarship ($5,000), Trial Advocacy Scholarship ($3,000), Leesfield/AAJ Scholarship ($2,500), and Mike Eidson Scholarship ($5,000).

Ms. JD Public Interest Scholarship This scholarship provides a stipend to students as they pursue careers in public interest law. Ms. JD continues to support women pursuing public interest careers by awarding $25,000 in scholarships .

Michigan Auto Law Diversity Scholarship Each year Michigan Auto Law offers a $2,000 scholarship to a  law student who best demonstrates a commitment to issues of diversity within their academic career. Recipient is a U.S. citizen currently attending an accredited law school within the United States or accepted to attend a law school in the fall.

Chapman Albin Scholarship for Law Students The investment law firm of ChapmanAlbin provides a new or current law student with a $1,000 scholarship to be used towards tuition and/or expenses. Scholarship applicants write a 300-500 word essay.

Baker Donelson Diversity Scholarship Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell & Berkowitz, PC award three scholarships to diverse law students. Each recipient is awarded $10,000, to be paid during the student's third year of law school to help defray the cost of law school tuition and related expenses. Additionally, recipients are awarded a salaried 2L Summer Associate position in one of the firm's offices.

LLoyd M. Johnson Scholarship Program The Minority Corporate Counsel Association (MCCA) is offering the LMJ Scholarship, a diversity pipeline program that grants scholarships of $10,000 to students for their first year of law school. In addition to financial support, LMJ scholars are connected with peers, alumni, and mentors, who are available to provide professional support, such as guidance on addressing academic or personal obstacles that arise over the course of their legal career.

The Cochran Firm "I'm a Survivor" Scholarship The Cochran Law Firm will award $2,500 to an applicant who has either survived or cared for a close family member who has experienced a catastrophic event.

Diversity in Law Minority Scholarship Contest Sutliff & Stout invite minority students pursuing legal careers to apply for the $1,500 Diversity in Law Minority Scholarship. The program is applicable for every Hispanic or Latino, African American or Asian students accepted to, or currently enrolled in, an accredited law school or paralegal program.

Leukemia & Lymphoma Law School Scholarship The Law Office of Renkin & Associates is pleased to announce the Leukemia & Lymphoma Law School Scholarship.  This $1000 scholarship was established to provide financial support to a student whose life has been impacted by lymphoma or leukemia and is seeking to continue his or her education through law school.

Latham & Watkins 2L Diversity Scholars As a leading global law firm serving a worldwide client base, Latham is committed to fostering a diverse workforce with lawyers from varied backgrounds and cultures, of different ethnicity and sexual orientations. The program awards select second-year law school students from ABA-accredited law schools a $25,000 scholarship. The first $10,000 of the scholarship will be paid upon starting as a summer associate at Latham & Watkins, and the balance of $15,000 will be paid upon starting as a full-time associate at the firm. Last year's deadline was May.

Liberty and Justice for All? Scholarship Contest  Cowboy Country Criminal Defense helps those facing criminal charges and provide the information regarding the criminal justice system and their legal rights. They want to hear from you and are offering (1) $1,000 scholarship to put towards one student's law school tuition.

Trial LawHER Scholarship Milestone has established the Trial LawHER Scholarship to help one female law school student achieve her goal of becoming a plaintiff trial lawyer. This law school scholarship intends to elevate a rising woman leader in the plaintiff trial lawyer space and education future trial lawyers around the power of settlement planning.

Baumgartner Law Firm Scholarship Applicant must be enrolled at an accredited law school. If you have applied to law school and have not yet been accepted, you may apply but the scholarship will only be awarded to someone accepted and enrolled at an accredited Law School at the time of scholarship selection. This scholarship will be awarded based on need and commitment to helping others. A one-time award of $3,000 will be awarded to one winner to be used for tuition, books and law school expenses.

Greg Baumgartner Annual Scholarship In an effort to give back to our community, attorney Greg Baumgartner is offering a $1,000 scholarship to help a young person obtaining an education. The scholarship targets a student who is paying their way through school without parental assistance.

Criminal Record Policy Essay Competition and Scholarship Sponsored by The Foundation for Continuing Justice and the Law Firm of Higbee & Associates, the Criminal Record Policy Essay Competition and Scholarship awards more than $3,000 to five winners. The competition is intended to expand the awareness of consequences of criminal records and the laws that govern their retention, dissemination, and expungement, as well as to research into the ways to improve related laws.

Dagney Johnson Law Group Pursuing Law Scholarship Dagney Johnson Law Group is asking students to write a compelling 300-400 word essay about the following:  Why did you choose to pursue a career in law? Describe any influences and experiences that shaped your decision to enter the legal profession. Students are encouraged to explain what they want to achieve once they become practicing attorneys as well. The winner of the scholarship will receive $2,500 to put toward their law school expenses.

Denver Trial Lawyers Law School Scholarship Contest Answer the question, "What does justice mean to you?" in a 750-word or longer essay. The best written and most compelling essay will be selected by the team at Denver Trial Lawyers® and the winner will receive an award of $1,000 to be put towards their law school tuition.

Florin-Roebig Scholarship Essay Contest This scholarship is for full-time students pursuing a law-related degree. Using your insight as a student and knowledge of your school, write an essay of no more than 1,200 words about a new program to help prevent sexual assault on college campuses. First place is $750, second place is $500 and third place is $250.

Goldman Babboni Fernandez & Walsh understand the dedication and commitment it takes, both in effort and in financial resources to earn a degree. They are awarding a $1,000 scholarship to the winner of their essay contest.

Annual Future of the Law Scholarship Founded on January 2, 2020, Talkov Law is awarding a $1,000 scholarship to a deserving law student who authors a winning essay in our Annual Future of the Law Scholarship Essay Contest. Tell your story in a brief narrative of your background and interests followed by a 500-750 word essay or presentation on your ideas for the future of the law. Emphasis should be given on how innovation and technology can enhance access to justice for all Americans. The winner will be selected based on overall writing ability, argument presentation and persuasion. The scholarship is open to any law student, including undergraduates accepted to an ABA-accredited law school.

Peck Law Group Elder Abuse and Neglect Scholarship The Peck Law Group will award one scholarship of $700 annually. Create an article on elder abuse and neglect of at least 1,000 words.


Center for Alcohol Policy Annual Essay Contest This national academic writing competition is intended to foster debate, analysis, and examination of state alcohol regulation in the 21st Century. First place is $5,000, second place $2,500 and third $1,000.

Entertainment Law Initiative Writing Competition The Recording Academy™, in concert with entertainment attorneys, established the Entertainment Law Initiative® to promote discussion and debate about the most compelling legal issues facing the music industry today. The ELI writing contest challenges students to identify, research, and write an essay with a proposed solution on a compelling legal issue confronting the music industry. Winner receives a $10,000 scholarship and two tickets to the GRAMMY Awards; runner-up receives a $2,500 scholarship.

Hogan/Smoger Law Student Essay Competition Public Citizen provides a current law student or master of law student with a $5,000 prize for the winner of its Hogan/Smoger Access to Justice Essay Competition.

Proff Law Juvenile & Restorative Justice Scholarship This scholarship will award $1,500 to a law student spending their summer working at a non-profit organization, doing juvenile justice or restorative justice work. Law students from diverse backgrounds and/or have juvenile or criminal records are encouraged to apply.

Michael Greenberg Student Writing Competition The National LGBT Bar Association's competition is dedicated to encouraging and recognizing outstanding law student scholarship on the legal issues affecting lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) persons. The winning article is considered for publication in the Tulane Journal of Law & Sexuality: A Review of Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity in the Law, the first and only student-edited law review devoted to the intersection of LGBT issues and the law in the United States.

The American College of Employee Benefits Counsel Writing Competition The American College of Employee Benefits Counsel sponsors a writing competition for law students to encourage them to learn about employee benefits. Up to two participants will be selected to receive $1,500 prizes. Winners also will be honored during the College’s annual black tie dinner.. Papers may be on any topic in the field of employee benefits law.

Philadelphia Injury Lawyers P.C. Essay Competition Philadelphia Injury Lawyers are known for obtaining high judgments in Court for victims of medical malpractice. We want to help the future generation of Philadelphia medical malpractice lawyers with their education expenses by offering an annual $1,000 scholarship. The scholarship will be based on an essay competition with a topic focused on medical malpractice law.

Sutliff & Stout, Injury & Accident Law Firm Law School Scholarship Our firm is guided by the idea that all people are entitled to high-quality legal representation, regardless of wealth or social status. This idea requires that there are enough high-quality attorneys and legal professionals working in the field to support those who are in need of representation. In an effort to enable more students who have a passion for law to be able to pursue that passion, our Houston car accident attorneys are offering an annual scholarship contest which will award a law student with a $1,500 award to be put toward his or her law school costs.


Shannon Bybee Scholarship Award The International Association of Gaming Advisors will award prizes of $2,500 for each of the two best research papers written on a topic that either enhances the understanding of gaming law or recommends a beneficial change in gaming law. Last year's deadline was in July.
