2' x 2' Wind Tunnel

side view wt

Brief Description

The larger of the two wind tunnels in the laboratory is used primarily for fundamental studies of aerodynamic flows where larger test section size is required. Boundary layers, wakes, flows over wings, and miniature wind turbines have all been studied in this tunnel.

This larger tunnel is an open loop wind tunnel. It has 0.61 m x 0.61 m x1.22 m (2' x 2' x 4') test section, and the maximum free stream velocity is 60 m/s. To condition the flow upstream wind tunnel has a honeycomb section and three sets of screens. It has a contraction ration of 11:1.
