The University of Wyoming Foundation has announced the appointment of Amy McGarrity to its board of directors.

McGarrity, who lives in Denver and currently serves as the chief investment officer and chief operating officer of the Colorado Public Employees’ Retirement Association (PERA), brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the foundation.

“We are delighted to welcome Amy McGarrity to the UW Foundation Board of Directors,” says Mary Shafer-Malicki, UW Foundation Board chair. “Her extensive experience in finance, coupled with her passion for empowering future generations, will undoubtedly enhance our mission and initiatives.”

In her role at PERA, McGarrity oversees the management of more than $60 billion in pension and retirement plans, demonstrating her exceptional leadership and financial acumen. She received a bachelor’s degree in finance from UW and an MBA from Rider University. McGarrity also holds a Chartered Financial Analyst designation from the CFA Institute. She spent many of her formative years in Rock Springs and still has family in the area.

“McGarrity’s appointment reinforces the foundation’s commitment to fostering excellence, innovation and growth,” says John Stark, president/CEO of the UW Foundation. “Her unique perspective and valuable insights will be a valuable addition to the foundation board.”

Before joining PERA, McGarrity held significant positions in other organizations, including her role as a product specialist at William Blair and Co. and chief investment officer for the Denver Public Schools Retirement System. She is an active member of various advisory committees and boards, such as the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board’s Investor Advisory Group and the Healthy Markets Association Board.

“I am incredibly honored and excited to be appointed to the UW Foundation Board, especially because of my roots in Wyoming. Having grown up in Rock Springs, graduated from the University of Wyoming, and now having the opportunity to give back to the university that shaped me, is truly a gift,” McGarrity says. “I am committed to leveraging my experience and investment knowledge to make a meaningful impact to the UW Foundation.”
