UW’s EORI and Crescent Energy Explore Carbon Sequestration Potential

The University of Wyoming’s Enhanced Oil Recovery Institute (EORI), in collaboration with Crescent Energy Co., recently assisted with the drilling and coring of a research well in Natrona County.

The well was drilled and cored through the First Wall Creek sand as part of a project jointly funded by the U.S. Department of Energy and Crescent Energy to investigate the existence of a residual oil zone below the productive interval of the formation.

EORI and Crescent Energy will determine if carbon dioxide can be used to economically recover residual oil from that zone and to ultimately sequester CO2.

EORI leaders say they look forward to the analysis of the core and resulting modeling. The project is expected to be finished this fall.

EORI’s mission and focus are to facilitate meaningful, measurable and economically viable solutions to increase recoverable reserves and production of oil and natural gas in Wyoming that otherwise may not be realized.
