Wyoming Wildlife Fellowship Cohort Applications Accepted for UW Students

The Wyoming Wildlife Fellowship -- a collaboration between the University of Wyoming Haub School of Environment and Natural Resources and the Wyoming Game and Fish Department -- is now accepting UW student applications to join the 2024 cohort.

The fellowship strives to promote well-rounded and well-prepared wildlife and fisheries professionals through an immersive, supportive, hands-on education and work experience. Interested UW undergraduates can find the fellowship application form online here. Applications will be accepted through 5 p.m. Friday, March 15.

The Wyoming Wildlife Fellowship is open to all UW undergraduates who have two or more years remaining in their bachelor’s degree studies as of the fall 2024 semester and maintain a 3.0 grade-point average. This includes current high school seniors who will begin their undergraduate studies this fall, as well as transfer students with at least two years remaining before graduation.

Fellows can expect to develop numerous skills that are relevant to future careers.

“To face the complex and challenging wildlife and fisheries issues of our time, we need emerging professionals who have a diversity of skills,” says Rhiannon Jakopak, a UW Haub School assistant research scientist and the fellowship’s coordinator. “In the fellowship, we help to build professionals who are not only good biologists and ecologists, but who also are able to translate science to a variety of audiences, work well in teams and understand how science and management can work together.”

Fellows receive a stipend starting at $3,000 per semester and will complete two paid summer internships with the Wyoming Game and Fish Department. During the academic year, Fellows complete service within a wide range of natural resources opportunities and participate in a seminar where they develop career skills.

“Through service work and their summer employment opportunities, Fellows are building and expanding their professional networks within Wyoming,” Jakopak says. “This broad network is critical for building a career in the wildlife and fisheries profession in Wyoming.”
