Volunteer Judges Needed for Wyoming State Science Fair March 3-5 at UW

Volunteer judges are needed for the 2024 Wyoming State Science Fair (WSSF) next month on the University of Wyoming campus.

This year’s WSSF is Sunday-Tuesday, March 3-5, with in-person interview judging of student projects scheduled Monday, March 4.

Judges may include university faculty and scientists; industrial engineers and scientists; representatives of private and federal research centers and agencies; medical researchers; postdoctoral fellows; and senior graduate students.

They will judge student research projects, which span a broad spectrum of STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) disciplines and are grouped into different categories for both middle and high school students.

Category award judges help select the 12 students nominated to apply to the national middle school competition and the one high school research project to represent Wyoming at the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair.

“Judges also are asked to provide written constructive comments and feedback to the competitors to encourage and inspire them,” says Erin Stoesz, WSSF director. “A sincere ‘thank you’ to all who have judged in the past and to those who can judge again this year.”

People wishing to serve as volunteer judges, or who need additional information, should call (307) 760-2465 or email wyostatefair@gmail.com. Those interested are asked to leave a name, contact information and a brief statement about their STEM background.

The public may view the student research posters and learn more about the WSSF from 1:15-9 p.m. March 4 in the Wyoming Union Ballroom.

Students from the following communities will compete at the WSSF next month: Basin, Big Piney, Boulder, Casper, Cheyenne, Cody, Dayton, Greybull, Kemmerer, LaBarge, Lander, Laramie, Meeteetse, Parkman, Pavillion, Pinedale, Powell, Ralston, Ranchester, Sheridan, Thermopolis, Torrington, Veteran and Yoder.
