The Fay W. Whitney School of Nursing Basic BSN Program named Premier Bone & Joint Center (PBJC) of Laramie the Community Partner for 2014. Holly Miller, faculty coordinator of the Basic BSN Program, explains why the school considers Premier Bone & Joint a strong clinical partner: "For many years, the UW Basic BSN Program has partnered with Premier Bone & Joint to educate future nurses. Their commitment to the education of students is continually growing. Their staff recently developed a special orientation program for students in order to better prepare them for experiences at PBJC."
Miller continues, "Student comments are consistently positive about this clinical placement, and UW nursing faculty members also praise this clinical agency for the staff’s enthusiasm, organization and commitment to excellence." Miller notes that PBJC nurses who oversee students in clinical believe the students need to have the “entire picture” of the surgical experience. They therefore work tirelessly to provide such for students, including rotations in the preoperative area, the operating room, and the post-anesthesia care unit. "Students are challenged to use their knowledge and skills in this supportive environment," stresses Miller.
The school presented the 2014 Community Partner award to PBJC at the September 5 Nightingale Ceremony on campus. Gail Christensen (Director of Ambulatory Surgery Center), Donna Lambert and Kerry Bean accepted the award for Premier Bone and Joint. (see picture to the right).
