University of Wyoming

Media Relations has two functions
to communicate the good news about UW and to get out the university's perspective when there are questions about our programs and policies.

News releases for print- and Web-based media

Media Relations prepares and distributes news releases each week for coverage in state, regional, national, and international print- and Web-based media. News releases are distributed to general media as well as specialty and trade publications when appropriate. Articles are accompanied by photographs when possible.

How can I submit news or events?

Most of the print news releases can be divided into four main categories: upcoming events, accomplishments, university research, and university programs.

Upcoming events. This category represents news releases initiated by all facets of the UW community. Often covered are scheduled music and theater performances; public meetings, conferences, and seminars; state wide extension courses; special lectures and presentations; open houses; and deadlines for applications and registrations.

Accomplishments. Media Relations produces news releases on personal accomplishments of faculty, staff, administrators, alumni, and students. Accomplishments typically include arrivals at, retirements from, and promotions within UW; notification of honors or awards including honor rolls and graduations; presentations at professional conferences; success at regional and national competitions; and participation in community events.

University research. Each member of UW Media Relations is responsible for news relating to one or more colleges. When writers learn of interesting research programs, they contact the individual directly and work with the researcher to develop an accurate news release for the general public.

University programs. News releases involving university programs includes new academic and administrative programs or changes to existing programs; plans for new facilities and repairs to existing facilities; and major studies such as reaccredidation.
