Web CMS Catching On

Over the past few years, the Visual Communications group in University Public Relations has developed and continues to improve a centralized content management system (CMS) for the UW Web site.

To help units across campus learn how to make the most of the CMS, Information Technology is now offering CMS training workshops, which are free for campus faculty and staff. View the schedule here.

Following are features that have been developed by our Web staff and which are available to users of the CMS. Follow the links to see examples on the UW Web site of what the features offer and to help you determine what features you’d like to see on your unit’s Web pages.

NEWS

Rate This
Brian Spradlin, VisComm Web guru, has a fascinating new tool on www.uwyo.edu. At the bottom of UW news releases, there is now a “Rate This Article” section. It’s a generic five-star system and is a good starting point to get immediate and easy feedback from our Web site visitors. Go ahead and try it out. Just open any news release from the www.uwyo.edu/news site.

New Look for UW News Daily e-Newsletter
Brian has also updated the afternoon news feed, so if you subscribe to UW News, you’ll see a fresh look with a visually interesting format. The ingenious part is subscribers don’t need any special software: it comes across as a basic e-mail.  In addition to new graphic elements, different sections are color-coded and include hyperlinks that pull back to www.uwyo.edu. To sign up for the daily news e-mail, click here: www.uwyo.edu/news/emailsignup2.asp.
