The heart of any recognized cardiovascular program is research. Only
through research we can improve the ability to diagnose and treat
patients with various forms of cardiovascular diseases. High blood
pressure, coronary artery disease and diabetes are the leading cause of
cardiovascular death and disability. As our population continues to
age, heart failure is becoming a more important health issue. Our
cardiovascular research laboratory, which is housed on the fifth floor
of the Pharmacy Building, encompasses studies in the physiology,
biochemistry and molecular biology of cardiovascular disease. Our goal
is to transfer state-of -the-art bench-side research to the
bedside so
that promising procedures and medications may become available.
