Welcome!
We are so pleased to have you join us for the fourth Medicine Bow Nordic Association Summer Camp, hosted by the UW Nordic Ski Team. We have put together this informational packet to help answer any questions you might have before your arrival. Included in this packet are the schedule, a training information form, a health history form, a list of what to bring and two waivers (No one will be able to participate without both waivers signed!).
We will be meeting at the UW Rec Camp. The camp is located 1 mile west of Centennial, Wy (about 30 minutes west of Laramie). MAP Check in time will be between 5:00pm-6:00pm on Saturday June 7 at the main lodge at the Rec Camp. If you are unable to check-in at this time please let us know. Check out the maps to find us. Unless other arrangements are made pickup time will be between 12pm and 1pm on Tuesday June 10 at the UW Rec Camp.
The UW Rec Camp consists of a common building, cabins and a shower/toilet building. We will be having all our meals, meetings, etc. in the common building. Each cabin sleeps 6 people. Most of you will be in a cabin with 3-5 other High School athletes and 1-2 UW Ski Team athletes. These cabins are fairly rustic, they have 6 single beds with mattresses but no sheets, blankets or pillows. The UW Rec Camp is fairly high in elevation so it will be cold at night, be sure to bring a warm sleeping bag or blankets. This is extremely important, last year it snowed during the camp! You also want to make sure you bring warm clothing for evenings and for sleeping.
Bears have been sighted in and around the Rec Camp so you should not take any food into your sleeping cabin and you should not wander around the woods alone or at night. We will be doing a great deal of training and in order to train at high level it is necessary for everyone to get plenty of rest, at least 8 hours a night. With this in mind we will be having “lights out” at 10pm so that everyone can get plenty of rest before our 6am ski.
We will be having 2 training sessions every day and we will be having 2 lecture sessions most days. Our goals are to help you learn to listen to your body, develop some knowledge on how to train yourself and have a lot of fun!
Please fill out the Training History and Goals and a Health History forms. These are only for informational purposes for the UW Coaches. We want to be well-informed so that we can give every athlete the best training advice possible as well as make sure that the experience is as safe and fun for everyone. Both coaches are Wilderness First Aid trained so you’ll be in good hands! Don’t worry if you don’t know all the answers to all these questions, just do your best to answer them honestly.
NOTE: WE have an athlete participant this year who is strongly allergic to peanuts, so please do not bring any peanuts or things containing peanuts, this includes powerbars/granola bars, etc.
When we are not skiing or running or playing games we will be in the common room at the UW Rec Camp. The phone number in the common building is 307-745-9549 The coaches cell #’s should also work (theoretically!)
We are very excited to be working with you and look forward to the camp. If you have any questions please be sure to contact either Christi (cell #: 307-760-7150) or Rachel (cell #: 307-760-2942) or email uwski@yahoo.com
