Facilities

The Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts (BCPA), which was recently extensively renovated and expanded, houses the Departments of Theatre and Dance and Music, as well as Buchanan Center Special Events and Fine Arts Outreach.

The BCPA boasts some of the best-equipped and finest small performing arts venues and support facilities in the Rocky Mountain region, including:

• BCPA Theatre and Dance Performing Venues, the 385-seat Main Stage proscenium theatre, the 256-seat, state-of-the-art Thrust Theatre, and the 140-seat experimental black box Studio Theatre (venues for the Department of Music are the 100-seat Recital Hall and the 600-seat Concert Hall).  

• Theatre and Dance Primary Teaching Spaces, including Mains Dance Studio, Dance Studio 2, Acting Studio; Crane Studio (Acting-for-the-Camera); and the Design/Tech Laboratory.

• Backstage, including:

  • Design/Tech Support Spaces

  • Production Support Spaces

  • Teaching Support Spaces

• BCPA Public Spaces, including the Main Lobby, Thrust Lobby, Studio Theatre Lobby, and Encore Cafe.
