International Mountaineer-Adventurer Jamie Clarke to Speak
April 23, 2009 — International mountaineer and adventurer Jamie Clarke will discuss his past adventures and plans for his fourth climb of Mount Everest Friday, May 1, at 7 p.m. in Room 214 of the Classroom Building
Clarke, of Calgary, Alberta, has taken part in expeditions for more than 20 years, covering the world's highest peaks on all seven continents. He has written two books and has been featured in two National Geographic documentaries based on his adventures.
Clarke describes himself as a person of ordinary abilities who accomplishes extraordinary things as a result of desire, planning and commitment.
"I have chosen adventure as my vehicle for inward and outward exploration," Clarke says. "Leading an active life, having passion, self-exploration, teamwork and goals are critical to helping us get through the sometimes mundane planning and preparation that lies behind any true accomplishment."
The talk is sponsored by Champion athletic apparel and presented by UW's Outdoor Program. For more information on the event, contact the Outdoor Program in Half Acre Gymnasium by visiting the Web site at www.uwyo.edu/oap, sending an e-mail to oap@uwyo.edu or calling (307) 766 2404.
