Summer Classics Institute Set for June 13-17 at UW

"Making Rome Great: How Roman Culture and Power Grew" will be the focus of this year's Summer Classics Institute June 13-17 at the University of Wyoming, conducted by the Wyoming Humanities Council.

UW faculty members and guest lecturers will speak and lead mini-courses and seminars on different aspects of seven centuries of ancient Roman history. Institute faculty members are: Laura DeLozier, UW classics academic professional lecturer; Phil Holt, UW classics professor; Marilyn Skinner, University of Arizona classics professor; and Eleanor Winsor Leach, Indiana University classics professor.

Free public lectures will be presented each evening at 7 p.m. in Room 186 of the UW College of Law Building. The schedule:

Sunday, June 13 -- "Republic and Empire: Roman Conservatism and Roman Growth," Holt.

Monday, June 14 -- "Women and Wealth in Republican Rome," Skinner.

Tuesday, June 15 -- "Celebrating a Trojan Ancestry," DeLozier.

Wednesday, June 16 -- Hannibal's Dreams: Cicero and Other Writers Remember the Wars," Leach.

Thursday, June 17 -- A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum," movie and discussion.
